RE: Newbie fueling question

I have never refueled in a Truck Stop in nearly 50 years of towing TT and 5th w. I towed a 40 ft 5th w for several years and now tow a 34 ft TT. I just make sure that I can get out before pulling into the Sevice Station. So far so good.

RE: Long (> 30') TT vs. 5th Wheel

I have owned three 5th w but I always go back to a TT because I really like hauling bikes, gen, firewood etc in the p/up bed. I tow a 34 ft TT and I have very little problem getting into camp grounds except Calif. I buy gas at the regular Service Stations with no problems. Never been to a Truck Stop for gas in nearly 50 years of towing.

RE: Ford V10 towing ability

I tow a 34 ft TT approx 10,200 pounds, with my V10 with the 3:73 {wish it had the 4:10} with very little problems. I do shift into 2nd gear. Get 7 to 9 miles per gallon towing, up to 15 empty on Freeway

RE: WDH with Friction system sway control

I've been towing for 30 + yrs using a friction sway system on a 26 ft'er & now a 30 ft'er and have not had one issue with turning sharply or backing up. I haven't giving it one thought about anything bad happening to the friction bar. Some have told me I gotta unhook the friction bar when I back up, I don't know why?... I haven't bent the bar yet. + I have never had any sway problems other than the occasional semi trying to suck me in. My philosophy is .... don't worry bout till it happens, then it's to late to worry bout it. :) Happy camping & enjoy your new trailer I agree with the above post 100 %. I have been towing right at 50 years and never removed the friction bar when turning sharply, backing up etc. I have towed many hundred of thousand of miles and no problems with the type of tow equip that you describe. I tow a 34 ft TT at the present time

RE: Slide locks

My TT came with poles to jam in the top of the 14 ft slide out and I used several times but most of the time they fall down along the side so now I never use. Never had a problem with water getting inside or coming out

I have been in many TT Parks in the 24 years as a member and seen quite a few truck campers either on or off the P/Ups.

RE: Newbie to truck camper, questions

You might need something to put under the camper to raise it high enough to clear the cab. Don't know about Dodge but I had to raise the camper to clear my late model Ford. As far as the plug since the camper is only 8.6 you will not cover your Dodge tail lights unless it is a short bed. You will need the plug later to keep the camper battery charged, etc

RE: Is a rubber roof a good thing or a bad thing?

I have a TT that sits permanently on my RV lot in Yuma in the extreme heat and in 7 years I have had no problems with the rubber roof. I wash the roof once a year and check it out. So far so good. Same thing for a 40 ft 5th w on another lot. I also have a 34 ft TT here in Ca and in the last 5 years washing the roof is all that I have done. I check it out thoroughly. It is under a metal cover when not using it. All three have rubber roofs

RE: How hard was it for you to decide to retire?

I retired the day that officially marked my 40th year with the District . Nearly 10 years ago. Do not miss it for one second !!!! Hope we have another 10 years of traveling and enjoying the good life. Like others we make more money retired than working. Now if I could just convince the DW that we should sell the stick house. But she insists that she has to have a house to come back to after months away

RE: Honda EU 2000

I've had the new 3000 for over a month now, non electric start, and have started it with ease, real nice, one pull, so guess the 2000 would be similar. I can al so lift it with ease. My chain saw and weed wacker take the wind out, glad the Honda is not like them! Bill You say you can lift the EU3000 with ease? I have a EU3000 and I sure CANNOT lift it with ease . If you can your a better man than me. The new 3000s have done away with the electric starter and battery. They now weigh only 71 lbs dry. And for that reason I can do it without help. I knew the regular 3000 would do me in. and will not get in the better man bit! Bill I did not know that the starter and battery was done away with. My bad. I apologize if I was sarcastic in the "better man than me" statement. I know my EU3000 is much harder to move around than the 2 EU2000 that I had but it has a starter and battery.

RE: Who hates diesel?

I don't hate diesels, I just don't like the noise, how stinky they are, messy, the cost of owning one. {I have owned three of them and keep going back to a gas rig} Granted they are much quieter now. I was impressed as I tried out a new Ford the other day. VERY IMPRESSIVE !
